BILL MCFARLAND & THE CHICAGO HORNS has been said by Neil Tesser to be “a potent hard-driving outfit that matches [a] throaty trombone with a beef-stew saxophonist and a fluent, octave-stretching trumpet ace.” With only six musicians, they create a big band sound. A one time member of the hit group The Southside Movement, Bill McFarland has received the designation “Master Trombonist of R&B, Funk, Jazz & Soul.” Saxophonist Hank Ford has played with Aretha Franklin, Jerry Butler, and Curtis Mayfield among many others. And trumpeter Kenny Anderson has shown his versatility by performing with musicians from Mighty Joe Young to Chuchito Valdés and Malachi Thompson. Completing the sextet are Kirk Brown, piano; Jack Zara, bass; and Charles Heath, drums.
