While remaining true to Latin American traditions, CALJE brings together a group that offers the musical treasures of Afro-Latin music and jazz, producing a fusion of various genres and a reflection of influences from Flamenco to Peruvian. Formed in 2006 by trumpeter, VICTOR GARCIA, and pianist and composer, DARWIN NOGUERA, CALJE has developed a bold sound. Victor has recorded on dozens of albums, two of which garnered Grammy nominations in 2005 and 2008. In 2009, he won the Grand Prize at the Union League Club jazz competition for musicians under 28. Victor has already recorded on dozens of albums–two Grammy nominated (2005 & 2008) and one Latin Grammy nominated (2007). Darwin moved to New York to study for a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He has formed a new trio in New York and also performs with the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra. In Chicago, Darwin combined traditional Latin forms and hard-hitting jazz with his Evolution Quintet where he recorded his CD, The Gardener. CALJE has recorded Blueprints. Both CD’s are on the Chicago Sessions label.
