CALJE, Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble. While remaining true to Latin American traditions, CALJE brings together a group that offers the musical treasures of Afro-Latin music and jazz, producing a fusion of various genres and a reflection of influences from Flamenco to Peruvian. Formed in 2006 by trumpeter, Victor Garcia, and pianist and composer, Darwin Noguera, CALJE has developed a bold sound. Darwin combines traditional Latin forms and hard-hitting jazz; with his Evolution Quintet, he has recorded his CD, The Gardener. Victor has recorded on dozens of albums, two of which garnered Grammy nominations in 2005 and 2008. The group is completed with Rocky Yera, tenor sax; Greg Ward, alto sax; Joshua Ramos, bass; Victor Gonzales, percussion; and Juan Pastor, drums.
