CURTIS BLACK is a Chicago writer and musician who has led his own quartet and played trumpet with jazz and world music groups around Chicago. For nearly two decades, he has led the Sunday-night jam session at Jimmy’s Woodlawn Tap—for a time, the only place to hear live jazz in Hyde Park. Curtis is accompanied by drummer Doug Mitchell, a veteran of the Chicago jazz scene; pianist Ben Neuman, an alumnus of the University of Chicago Jazz X-tet, who has attracted critical acclaim with his first CD, Introductions; and bassist Michael Daly, who has played with Chicago’s top jazz artists, including Orbert Davis, Ira Sullivan, the late Barrett Deems and Johnny Frigo.
