Vocalist DEE ALEXANDER wins accolades wherever she performs. One of Chicago’s most gifted and respected female vocalist/songwriters, Dee was voted best singer of 2009 by Chicago Magazine. Her talents span every music genre, but it is through her seemingly effortless and powerful jazz performances that she is known, both locally and internationally. The Chicago Reader has called her “a true diva in the mold of Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, and Dianne Reeves . . . with an innate theatricality and enough pure musicality to overwhelm most of the instrumentalists with whom she shares the stage.” Her 2009 CD, Wild Is the Wind, received a coveted and rare five-star masterpiece rating from Downbeat Magazine. Her tributes to Nina Simone and Dinah Washington in Millennium Park played to a capacity audience that was mesmerized by her performance. She has been heard and applauded around the world, from the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival to the Umbria Winter Jazz Festival, from Sao Paolo, Brazil to Posnan, Poland. In addition to Dee on vocals, the Arkestra will be comprised of MIGUEL DE LA CERNA, piano; HARRISON BANKHEAD, bass; JUNIUS PAUL, bass; TOMEKA REID, cello; SCOTT HESSE, guitar; and YUSEF ERNIE ADAMS, drums/percussion.
