DIANE “L’il Sax” ELLIS is an alto saxophonist and a music educator at Dixon Elementary School. Tutored in jazz by master musicians such as Sonny Stitt, Hank Crawford, Jimmy Ellis, David “Fat Head” Newman, and Houston Person, Diane has played with organists Jimmy McGriff and Charles Earland. She has also performed as a soloist in Jamaica and Germany, and as the opening act for Ray Charles. Besides heading her own group, Diane performs with the Tony Smith Show, Morris Ellis Jazz Orchestra, and the Walter Cartwright Big Band. The Jazzy Ladies are ANDREA MOORE, piano; SHERRY WEATHERSBY, bass; and BARBARA BURTON, drums/percussion.
