DIANE ” LIL SAX” ELLIS & THE JAZZY LADIES. Diane Ellis is an alto saxophonist and a music educator at Dixon Elementary School. She has been tutored in jazz by master musicians such as Sonny Stitt, Hank Crawford, Jimmy Ellis, David “Fat Head” Newman, and Houston Person, and she has played with organists Jimmy McGriff and Charles Earland. Diane also performed as a soloist in Jamaica and Germany, including as the opening act for Ray Charles. Besides heading her own group, Diane performs with the Tony Smith Show, Morris Ellis Jazz Orchestra, and the Walter Cartwright Big Band. The Jazzy Ladies are Andrea Moore, piano; Sherry Weathersby, bass; and Barbara Burton, drums.
