A Chicago native and master bass guitar player, FRANK RUSSELL began playing drums, guitar and sax before switching to bass guitar at the age of 14. Frank has been playing it ever since, along the way working or recording with such diverse artists as The Spaniels, Freddie Hubbard, Ramsey Lewis, Robert Irving III, Art Porter, Mike Wolf (Arsenio Hall), and Peter Erskine (Weather Report). Frank has recorded five CD’s with Chicago guitarist, Henry Johnson, and co-written the title song for Johnson’s second CD, Future Excursions. He has performed in Steppenwolf Theatre’s Nomathemba with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, where he was the only American musician. He also appears playing bass in the movie Cold Justice. On Frank’s first release under his own name, Covering All Basses, he played fretless, four and five string and acoustic guitars. In reviewing this CD, Dave Freeman writes, “Frank Russell is one of the greatest of a generation of Chicago electric bass players.” His newly released CD, Circle Without End, is receiving equally positive reviews. Performing with Frank are GREG SPERO, keys; KHARI PARKER, drums; TIM MCNAMARA, sax; and MARCO VILLARREAL, guitar.
