Teen phenom, IRVIN PIERCE, is a riveting saxophonist who is one of Chicago’s newest and hottest young lions. Coming up through the Jazz Ambassadors program of the Jazz Institute of Chicago, Irvin has performed for the Hyde Park Jazz Society’s Sunday Jazz Series. This summer he was selected to be one of eight musicians to travel to the 35th Annual Telluride Jazz Festival as part of the Telluride Student All-Star Ensemble. The All-Stars perform around town the week leading up to the main event, culminating in an opening performance on the Town Park Main Stage “which has hosted such Jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, Betty Carter, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, James Moody, Herbie Mann, and Stanley Turrentine.” Joining Irvin in the Quintet are BILLY GOWANS, piano; CHRIS JOHNSON, trombone; DANIEL CHMIELINSKI, bass; and SAM JEWELL, drums.
