Presented in partnership with World Music Festival: Chicago 2010
Maurice Brown. His passionate and improvisational rhythms have been electrifying the music industry since he came on the jazz scene. Maurice’s 2004 debut album, Hip to Bop, made it to top ten charts across the charts across the country; his 2nd CD, Cycle of Love, was released this year. After winning first place in the National Miles Davis Trumpet Competition, Maurice left Illinois for Louisiana, studying at Southern University and also headlining at New Orleans’ Snug Harbor where Downbeat called him “one of the most exciting young trumpeters in jazz–be it New Orleans or New York.” Although Maurice now lives in New York, he occasionally returns to Chicago to make some music.
