A native Hyde Parker, MIGUEL DE LA CERNA is a multi-faceted pianist, composer, conductor, and arranger who is known for his jazz arrangements for such notable performers as Oscar Brown, Jr., Dee Alexander, and Bobbi Wilsyn. Additionally, he is accomplished in classical music and musical theatre. In 2012, Miguel received acclaim for his Livingston 8—A Fantasy, commissioned by the Orion Ensemble. Howard Reich described it as “a richly evocative, somewhat autobiographical piece drawing upon the sounds de la Cerna heard growing up on the South Side of Chicago.” This year, the Orion gave Miguel another commission, from which he produced Lost Souls, which takes a darker look at human history than his first piece. Miguel also received critical acclaim for his arrangements and direction of Dee Alexander’s Tribute to Nina Simone and Dinah Washington at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. As a featured pianist and arranger for the Eldee Young Quartet, Miguel toured extensively through Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Increasingly, Miguel is equally comfortable playing mainstream and free improvisation. Bassist JUNIUS PAUL and drummer XAVIER BREAKER complete the Trio.
