PHAREZ WHITTED is a jazz trumpeter, composer, producer, and educator who has performed throughout the United States and overseas with such musicians as Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, and Ramsey Lewis. Pharez wrote, produced, arranged, and played on his two compact discs for Mo Town’s Jazz record label, entitled Pharez Whitted and Mysterious Cargo. He also co-produced the MoJazz album, People Make the World Go ‘Round. Pharez has been a member of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and is currently the director of jazz studies at Chicago State University. His recent CD, Transient Journey, has been universally praised. Neil Tesser writes of the recording that “the spirit of Freddie Hubbard hovers nearby. . . . But few have managed to channel it as effectively as Pharez Whitted, who honors the late giant with his combination of intensity and technique, spank and sparkle, and that hot-cider tone.” Performing with Pharez are RAJIV HALIM, alto sax; RON PERRILLO, piano; JOSH RAMOS, bass; and GREG ARTRY, drums.
