Pianist, composer, educator, and Guggenheim Fellow, RYAN COHAN has distinguished himself as a vital and original voice on today’s global music scene. He has performed with master jazz artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Regina Carter, Curtis Fuller, Joe Locke, Paquito D’Rivera, Pat La Barbera, and Orbert Davis. In both 2008 and 2009, The Ryan Cohan Quartet was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Department of State for The Rhythm Road Project, out of which have grown several of Ryan’s CD’s. Of his CD, One Sky, Howard Reich wrote, “The translucence of his compositions for sextet, as well as the high polish of the playing he inspires, makes One Sky a significant achievement for a composer on the verge of greater things.” The jazz site All About Jazz praised Ryan’s next CD, Another Look for capturing “this magic of interaction” among his musicians. As an educator, Ryan has been the assistant director of small and large jazz ensembles at The University of Illinois at Chicago, faculty member of the Skidmore Jazz Institute in New York, and a jazz artist clinician at universities and high schools throughout the U.S and abroad. Ryan will be joined by JOHN WOJCIECHOWSKI, saxophones & flutes; GEOF BRADFIELD, saxophones & bass clarinet; TITO CARRILLO, trumpet & flugelhorn; LORIN COHEN, bass; KOBIE WATKINS, drums; and SAMUEL TORRES, percussion.
