Touring in Europe in the ‘90’s and trained as an opera singer, TAMMY MCCANN added Gospel to her musical repertoire, then spent two more years in Europe after winning a national competition to become a Raelette with Ray Charles. But it was in jazz that Tammy found her calling. Howard Reich has described her as having “a voice that soars in all registers, at all tempos, on all occasions . . . . [and is] the next great voice out of Chicago.” A powerful and versatile singer, Tammy has been mentored by Lena McLin, Von and George Freeman, Milt Trenier, Ramsey Lewis, and Henry Johnson. Two years ago, Tammy found supporters in New York–including vocalist, Ann Hampton Callaway; members of the Board of the Nelson Riddle Foundation; and the noted jazz critic and author, Stanley Crouch—and is making inroads into its club scene. Following up on her debut CD, Classic, Tammy has released her second CD, Never Let Me Go. Tammy will be backed by THE REUNION JAZZ ORCHESTRA featuring trumpeter, PHAREZ WHITTED (see under his name) and trombonist, AUDREY MORRISON, former lead trombone with Bill Russo’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble, member of the jazz sextet SHE, and principal trombone of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
