ARMAN SANGALANG

Saxophonist and composer Arman Sangalang is an up-and-coming jazz musician on the Chicago scene, as well as an in-demand sideman who collaborates frequently with Jameson Scriver’s Reckoner, Miro Sobrer’s Two of Swords, Morgan Turner Quartet, and Kabir Dalawari Quartet. He has studied with distinguished jazz artists such as Geof Bradfield, Walter Smith III, Greg Ward, Jon Irabagon, and Matt Ulery, and had the honor of sharing the stage with notable jazz artists such as Bobby Broom, Clark Sommers, Ted Sirota, Lenard Simpson, and Camila Mennitte. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from Indiana University and a Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, where he served as a graduate assistant teaching jazz combos and classes.

Things have been busy for Sangalang. In 2022, his quartet (featuring Dave Miller, Matt Ulery, and Devin Drobka) performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival; his quintet, IRIS, was one of just four groups selected from across the country to attend the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy; and he was an awardee of a Jazz Institute of Chicago’s Jazz Links Fellowship.

Sangalang’s debut album Quartet, featuring original compositions, is set to release in the Fall of 2023.
