3Arts grant recipient Sam Thousand (formally known as Sam Trump) is a singer/writer, producer/composer, and multi-instrumentalist with 15+ years of experience in live performance art, curation, and self-management. He’s a full-time artist, curator, business owner, and entrepreneur, and co-founder of the Chicago-based arts organization ChiBrations. Through maintaining years of performance residencies, curating special events throughout the city, and serving as a booking manager at multiple venues and spaces, Thousand has become a fixture in Chicago’s performing arts scene. He has had the opportunity to perform in all corners of North America and overseas.

Organist/pianist Justin Dillard was born and raised on the west side of Chicago and attended both Vandercook College of Music and The Velvet Lounge. His studies at both of these institutions gave him the honorable privilege of working with innovators both locally and globally, and performing with, recording with, and/or receiving tutelage from the likes of Branford Marsalis, Robert Irving III, Ornette Coleman, the late jazz master Von Freeman, and Roscoe Mitchell. Dillard continues to transform his career by composing for and performing with his vast array of ensembles, and accompanying great musicians all over the world.
