Africa Brown and Maggie Brown love doing together what they do best—singing with theatrics on stage. These “Two Brown Sisters” energetically merge their foundations in jazz with the melting pot of their mixed musical upbringing. Always enjoyable and steeped in a rich musical legacy, the sisters’ performances feature a harmonious vocal blend that radiates sisterly love and their often comical chemistry on stage. This is a special year which marks the centennial celebration of their iconic father, Oscar Brown, Jr.
With a treasure trove of material to choose from, the sisters are thoughtful when fashioning a show, and The Brown Sisters’ Jazz Cafe will feature a who's-who of Chicago musicians. Audience members will witness sisters who not only love sharing a dad, but also love acting as the keepers of so many traditions: Music traditions. Storytelling traditions. Cultural consciousness traditions. Chicago jazz royalty traditions.
The musicians:
Maggie Brown – vocals
