Emmet Cohen

Emmet Cohen is widely regarded as a leading jazz pianist and a defining force in the evolution of the art form. A virtuoso musician, producer, and bandleader, he combines deep respect for jazz tradition with the belief that jazz is fundamentally about communication and connection—between musicians, audiences, and the generations that carry the music forward.

Cohen has released 12 albums as a leader and performed in over 40 countries, appearing at many of the world’s most respected venues and festivals, including the Village Vanguard, Birdland, Carnegie Hall, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the Monterey Jazz Festival. He was named DownBeat Readers Poll Pianist of the Year in 2025 and received both Pianist of the Year and Livestream Producer of the Year honors from the Jazz Journalists Association in 2023. He serves as host and member of the programming team of The Jazz Cruise, and he has been chosen as Artistic Partner of the 2027 American Piano Awards.

Beyond performance, Cohen plays an active role in shaping the broader jazz ecosystem. Serving as both producer and pianist of his ongoing Masters Legacy Series—a collection of recordings, live performances, and interviews honoring legendary jazz musicians—Cohen has collaborated with icons including Jimmy Cobb, Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Tootie Heath, George Coleman, and Houston Person. The series functions as a living dialogue across generations, preserving jazz’s oral tradition while actively extending it into the present.

He is also the producer and creative force behind Live From Emmet’s Place, a landmark series comprising over 140 two-hour livestream performances featuring hundreds of musicians spanning generations and garnering more than 100 million views worldwide. Having grown from an intimate, pandemic-born broadcast from Cohen’s Harlem apartment into a global cultural platform, the series continues today from Power Station NYC.

Cohen’s releases include Future Stride (2021), Uptown in Orbit (2022), Vibe Provider (2024), and Universal Truth (2026). These recordings trace a distinctive artistic arc—combining stride, swing, bebop, and modern jazz to create a unique and deeply personal aesthetic. The release of Universal Truth coincides with the launch of a year-long quintet tour celebrating the centennial birthdays of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
